ABSENTEE CLERK - ELECTIONS AND REGISTRATION

Classification Title: Absentee Clerk (Seasonal)

The purpose of this classification is to maintain a complete and accurate record of all eligible voters in the County with each person voting in the correct precinct and for their correct representative, and to hold absentee balloting prior to all elections.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Incumbent in this class performs operational duties related to providing administrative support for the Elections and Registration Department. The incumbent will primarily be responsible for assisting voters at Early and Advance Voting sites which includes researching data, issuing and collecting voting materials, verifying identification and setting up equipment. Applicants must be able to read, understand and apply State of Georgia Election laws. Other duties may include performing data entry duties from source documents, updating files and scanning documents. The incumbent may also perform routine administrative duties such as filing, answering telephones, greeting and responding to questions from visitors, sorting and distributing mail, typing correspondence, transmitting documents to outside agencies and other departments, and other Election related duties as required. Specific duties include data entry, filing, document scanning, processing absentee ballots and maintaining correspondence. The incumbent also assists with retrieving and distributing mail, provides customer service in person and via telephone, and demonstrates knowledge of office practices, personal computer usage, telephone etiquette and customer service procedures.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent; and one (1) year administrative office support experience; or a year for year interchange of related education and experience equal to the minimum qualifications. Must be able to work extended hours and weekends with short notice. Typing speed: 40 WPM preferred. If requested by the department, a typing test will be administered at a later date. Application will be reviewed and sent to the department if all other minimum qualifications are met.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work that may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
