Job summary

Fifth Third Bank in Chicago, IL is seeking an ABL Associate to support origination, underwriting, and loan closing for asset-based lending. You will manage a pipeline of opportunities, cultivate internal and external relationships, and contribute to portfolio reviews.

The role emphasizes credit analysis, regulatory awareness, and collaboration across deal teams. The position requires 3–5 years in credit analysis or underwriting within commercial banking; ABL experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years credit analysis and/or loan review or underwriting in Commercial Banking.
• 1+ year in Asset Based Lending environment preferred.
• Knowledge of asset-based lending, private equity, capital markets and M&A structures is a plus.
• Familiarity with credit policies, procedures, and terminology.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Experience in originating and executing complex financial transactions is a plus.
• Proficient with Word, PowerPoint and Excel; ability to learn loan systems.

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day coverage, origination, and transaction management for clients including Sponsors.
• Prioritize and support a pipeline of ABL financing opportunities.
• Support underwriting approval and loan closing processes including loan systems setup and presentation materials.
• May manage ongoing credit risk of a basic portfolio and participate in portfolio meetings.
• Maintain trend cards/portfolio review forms, credit files, and legal files; document credit decisions.
• Support multiple opportunities and routines with internal deal team members.
• Develop internal relationships with the coverage team (Relationship Managers/Credit Risk Officers).
• Develop external relationships with customers via client meetings and business development calls.
• Apply knowledge of credit analysis, ABL and capital markets activity.
• Mentor junior team members including analysts.
• Maintain continuous learning to keep up with market dynamics.
