Asphalt Green, a nonprofit organization in New York, seeks AAU Head Basketball Coach for Battery Park City. This part-time, in-person role focuses on youth development, disciplined training, and a positive team culture.

The position offers a $4,500 seasonal stipend, prorated if joining after the start date, with duties including designing practices, leading sessions, and coordinating with the Director of Player Development to ensure safe, development-focused experiences for players.

Qualifications

• Prior coaching experience at the club, high school, or collegiate level.
• Competitive basketball playing experience at the club, high school, collegiate, or professional level.
• Deep understanding of basketball fundamentals, rules, and regulations.
• Ability to develop game plans and adjust strategies during games.
• Experience with player development and skill progression.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to foster a positive, disciplined, respectful, and team-focused environment.
• Ability to supervise youth athletes during practices, games, travel, and team activities.
• Ability to work two weekday evenings after 4:30 PM, one weekday afternoon, and select weekends for league play.
• Ability to attend required coaches meetings, trainings, and program events.
• Ability to become USA coaching certified upon hire, paid for by Asphalt Green.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Develop players’ basketball skills and game understanding for competition.
• Design and lead organized, efficient practices addressing individual and team needs.
• Teach fundamentals, rules, strategies, terminology, and game concepts.
• Support player development, skill progression, confidence, accountability, and work ethic.
• Develop and implement effective game plans and in-game adjustments.
• Maintain team culture focused on sportsmanship and respect.
• Supervise players during practices, games, travel, and team activities.
• Communicate clearly with players, families, coaches, and program leadership.
