Job summary

New York Edge in New York, NY seeks a part-time Sports Activity Specialist (Basketball) to lead after-school activity programs for youth. You will provide skill- and age-appropriate instruction, coach youth athletes, and mentor participants across our day camp activities.

The role emphasizes safety, engagement, and alignment with the sports and wellness guide, with afternoon hours and close collaboration with program leadership.

Qualifications

• Must be knowledgeable and skilled in Sports and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth.
• Prior experience teaching and instructing youth preferred.
• Must be able to follow a curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Motivate students to be active daily.
• Ensure daily lesson plans are structured, age-appropriate, with learning goals.
• Maintain communication with the Program Director and Center for Sports and Wellness.
• Motivate and encourage students to participate in organization-wide sports activities.
• Establish and enforce safety rules for behavior and procedures.
• Instruct participants on activity principles, techniques, and safety procedures.
• Set objectives for lessons and projects, and communicate them.
• Prepare facilities for group activities.
• Evaluate activities and adapt teaching methods.
• Promote progressive development of student skills and character.
• Provide support during Academic hours when needed.
• Adapt activities to ensure safe participation in the space provided.
