Job description

Overview

Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a AAT Senior Research Technician to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. The role involves designing, executing, and interpreting experiments that contribute to project strategies. The Contractor will provide laboratory support by assisting in aerosol exposures and executing research protocols as directed by AAT Leadership. The ideal candidate should have 7 years of relevant aerosol experience and a working knowledge of aerosol generating platforms and ancillary equipment such as aerodynamic particle sizers, aerosol nebulizers, aerosol collection devices, and various plenums. Responsibilities include executing scientific studies, assisting with data collection and entry, maintaining laboratory space and equipment, and mentoring staff. The work environment includes BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 laboratories with controlled substances, requiring BPRP and CS-PRP certifications.

Position Support

This position supports the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Fort Detrick, MD. USAMRIID collaborates with various military, government, and private organizations to protect the Warfighter from biological threats and investigate disease outbreaks, conducting RDTE of medical countermeasures and supporting research activities.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine, supporting scientific programs that benefit military personnel and civilians.

Responsibilities
  1. Assemble, calibrate, and test telemetry systems; troubleshoot communication issues; support animal studies in BSL environments, managing approximately 20 studies annually.
  2. Operate and maintain telemetry systems for GLP animal studies, manage inventory, supporting 15-25 validated systems per year.
  3. Maintain data security, tabulate and analyze telemetry data, and review results with SMEs.
  4. Maintain records according to GLP standards and regulations.
  5. Coordinate with scientists and technical staff, assist in training personnel on telemetry functions.
  6. Complete required training and maintain records as per regulations.
  7. Perform weekly/monthly cleaning, restocking, and safety compliance in designated laboratory areas, reporting findings regularly.
  8. Support animal protocols through observations, sample collection, euthanasia, and tissue collection under supervision, ensuring compliance with GLP, IACUC, and BSL standards.
  9. Report safety or SOP non-compliance issues promptly.
  10. Provide coverage support during high-volume periods, notify leadership of restrictions, and coordinate task coverage.
  11. Maintain CS-PRP and BPRP certifications as required by regulations.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree with 7+ years' experience OR Master's degree with 3+ years' experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • US Citizenship, ability to obtain and maintain T3/Secret, BRPR, CPRP, and/or CSPRP clearances.

Physical Capabilities

  • Maintain health to meet BPRP, CPRP, CSPRP requirements.
  • Up-to-date on immunizations and TB testing if applicable.
  • Lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • Prolonged standing or sitting at a computer.
Work Environment

Primarily laboratory setting.

Compensation
  • Annual salary range: $57,650 - $93,100, based on experience and education.
