Job Description:

Parsons is seeking a talented AAT Engineering Technician to support research administration services for our government client in Frederick, MD. The role involves generating, characterizing, and sampling biological aerosols to support studies on pathogenesis and medical countermeasures against biothreat agents.

This position offers regular hours, with potential for weekends or extra hours as needed.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Generate, characterize, and sample biological aerosols, including animal plethysmography and aerosol supervision, under the guidance of a study PI and in compliance with IACUC and GLP standards (75-120 aerosol exposures per year).
  • Assist with SOP writing, revision, and review to meet GLP requirements (10-15 SOPs per year).
  • Assemble, maintain, and troubleshoot aerosol systems, including calibration, validation, and certification (8-12 systems per year).
  • Perform and supervise biological decontamination procedures for Class III biosafety cabinets (75-120 decontaminations per year).
  • Certify and maintain Class III biosafety cabinets (12-15 cabinets and transporters per year).
  • Coordinate and collaborate with AAT leadership to develop and continue the technical training program, and assist in training other staff.
  • Enter research data, develop charts and graphs, and assist in preparing manuscripts or posters for scientific conferences.
  • Complete annual GLP training and maintain records per regulations and SOPs.
  • Complete required training and maintain records.
  • Report safety or SOP non-compliance observations promptly.
  • Cross-train and assist with laboratory technician support, including bacterial and viral assays, sample processing, and telemetry operations.
  • Perform weekly/monthly checks of BSL-3 and BSL-2 change rooms, showers, and containment areas, ensuring compliance.
  • Notify AAT Leadership of any containment restrictions and provide estimated duration for scheduling.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomechanical, Bioelectrical, or Biochemical Engineering with 5 years of aerosol experience.
  • Knowledge of aerosol generating platforms and equipment, including aerodynamic particle sizers, nebulizers, collection devices, and plenums.
  • Ability to work in high containment labs (BSL-3/BSL-4).
  • Familiarity with IACUC guidelines.
  • Experience writing SOPs.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting aerosol systems.
  • Experience developing technical training programs.
  • Willingness to travel for offsite training.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain NCAI clearance.
  • Enrollment in BPRP and CS-PRP required.

Salary Range: $35.05 - $61.35
