Job summary

Augmentative & Alternative Communication Consultant role at Eaton RESA collaborates with speech-language pathologists and special education teams to support students who benefit from AAC throughout the school day.

This position requires strong communication, problem solving, and coaching skills; it delivers professional learning to districts and coordinates resources with families, vendors, and medical providers.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in special education, speech-language pathology, or related field.
• Michigan license required for SLP; CCC optional.
• Three or more years of AAC experience with students.
• Understanding of language development and communication differences.
• Knowledge of evidence-based AAC strategies.
• Familiarity with federal and state regulations for students with disabilities.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Experience coaching staff and fostering collaboration.
• Facilitation skills for staff and outside agencies in AAC services.

Responsibilities

• Consult and coach teams to plan AAC tools and strategies.
• Gather input from teachers, SLPs, admins and stakeholders.
• Support ongoing review of communication skills during AAC implementation.
• Share AAC resources and training materials.
• Join teams with knowledge of access methods for diverse needs.
• Provide coaching on intervention strategies through PLCs.
• Manage lending library of AAC hardware and apps.
• Assist staff in evaluating AAC effectiveness.
• Recommend materials and equipment to meet student needs.
• Coordinate with vendors for repair and support.
• Develop training to build district capacity in AAC.
• Apply SETT process in collaboration with Assistive Tech Consultant.
• Create and manage AAC Consultation Support Request System.
