Job description

Position Summary

The on-call A/V Technician is responsible for supporting audiovisual needs for Clark Art Institute events and hosted initiatives on apart-time, on-call basis. Responsibilities for this role include event A/V presentation (video projection, audio, and lighting) and media handling (audio and/or video playback and recording) for events including MetLive Opera simulcasts between September and May along with other events potentially including classic film screenings and occasional live events.

Work will occur primarily on weekends or in evenings, with hours varying seasonally from 0 or 4 to as high as 8-14.

Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
  • Serve as primary A/V support for MetLive Opera simulcasts, which occur Operate video projection and audio equipment for film screenings and related events
  • Operate lighting controls, and assist as needed with pre- and post-show tasks, speeches, & etc.
  • Other related duties as appropriate
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Training, and Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Operation of Audio and Video playback systems, including some of:
    • Optical Disc Playback (Blu-Ray/DVD)
    • Digital media playback via computer (direct file playback or web-based streaming)
    • Digital media playback via dedicated streaming hardware
  • Basic operation of lighting controls (some familiarity with DMX-based lights preferred)
  • Basic operation of audio control systems (turning volume up/down to reasonable levels)
  • Familiarity with, or willingness and capacity to learn about related technical matters, including
    • Assisted Listening Devices for hearing impaired individuals
    • Operation of various digital media recording, streaming, and playback tools
    • Video switching systems, digital audio mixing boards, and associated devices
Work Experience
  • 1 year experience in A/V support, A/V production, or similar. Informal experience, such as work for a club, school, or church, is acceptable.
  • Experience interacting positively with individuals from a broad range of backgrounds and identities.

    • Ability to sit at a desk/workstation and use a computer for prolonged periods of time.
    • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.

    • Ability to see and hear subject matter and assess volume levels and visual clarity
    • Ability to safely lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Work Environment: Work will be performed in an office environment and museum spaces, occasionally including outdoor spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate but may be high during events such as concerts.
