Job summary

City of San Antonio Police Department is seeking a Telecommunicator to provide police services, process 911 and non-emergency requests, and support dispatch operations from Public Safety Headquarters.

This frontline role requires licensing, background checks, and the ability to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends. You will enter and manage reports, assist field officers, and may testify in court as required.

Qualifications

• Applicants must meet and maintain Telecommunicator licensing requirements set forth by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
• Must obtain and maintain a TCOLE Telecommunicator license for appointment to the San Antonio Police Department.
• Applicants must remedy any TCOLE license deactivations or suspensions before their start date.
• TCOLE licensing requirements include a significant background check.
• Applicants must be United States citizens or naturalized United States citizens.
• Must possess an honorable discharge from the branch of the military served, if applicable.
• Applicants must pass a fingerprint-based background check (FBI and DPS).
• Must not have a Class B misdemeanor within the last 10 years; no Class A or higher misdemeanors.
• Juvenile convictions are held to the same standard as adult convictions.
• Out-of-state convictions are held to the Texas equivalent.
• Dishonesty discovered during the application process will result in automatic disqualification.

Responsibilities

• Processes and expedites Police Reports.
• Enters Police offense/incident reports into the police reporting system with full details.
• Updates NCIC/TCIC files for recovered or stolen property.
• Performs radio dispatch functions to process information from field officers.
• Answers 911 and non-emergency requests per policy.
• Accesses CAD and state/national files for online searches.
• Creates follow-up supplemental reports as required.
• Assists other units to meet goals.
• Testifies in court when subpoenaed.
• Performs related duties as required.
