Job summary

Dallas Independent School District is seeking a SPED Self-Contained Teacher Assistant for grades 9-12. The role supports the classroom teacher with instructional materials, behavior management, and student care in a campus setting.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, plus an acceptable credential (associate degree, 48 college hours, or passing an assessment). Paraprofessional certification is required; experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent, plus one of the following: Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, pass an academic assessment.
• Paraprofessional certificate required from State Board of Certification.
• Training program for teacher assistants or six months of relevant work experience preferred.
• Knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics; ability to work with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom and prepare classroom according to student needs.
• Help with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment.
• Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitutes teachers.
• Assist students with physical disabilities including transferring and positioning.
• Assist with personal care needs including feeding, bathroom routines and hygiene.
• Assist with classroom curriculum.
• Help manage behavior and intervene in crisis situations as needed.
• Learn and adapt to each student's medical, physical, communicative and emotional needs.
• Supervise students during lunch, bus and playground duties.
• Maintain confidentiality and participate in staff development and meetings.
