Job summary

City and County of Denver is seeking individuals to join the 9-1-1 Emergency Call Taker Academy. The role starts with 11 weeks of paid classroom instruction followed by 13 weeks of paid on-the-job training to prepare for live call-taking duties.

The position pays $29.00 per hour and operates in a 24/7 on-site environment. Ideal candidates communicate clearly, stay calm under pressure, and demonstrate reliability, teamwork, and critical thinking.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent required.
• Two years public contact experience and one year computer user experience in Windows environment.
• CPR and NAED EMD certifications required by end of academy.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for Police, Fire, and EMS with professionalism.
• Collect, assess, and document critical information into the CAD system.
• Determine call nature and priority, initiate appropriate protocols and dispatch.
• Provide lifesaving instructions and triage guidance over the phone.
• Handle high call volumes in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
• Operate CAD, telephone, and mapping software to support call handling.
• Exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions under pressure.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to policies and performance standards.
