Job summary

Buncombe County Government seeks multiple full-time Public Safety Telecommunicators to join the 16-week 9-1-1 Telecommunications Training Academy starting January 25, 2027. No prior experience is required and you will train to handle 911 and administrative calls, then move to a rotating 12-hour shift schedule.

You will use CAD and GIS software to triage calls, transfer to appropriate resources, and document information under pressure.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Receive and screen emergency and administrative calls, prioritizing and routing to appropriate responders.
• Gather incident details, verify caller information and location, and document data for CAD and GIS systems.
• Operate multiple computer systems and conference with other agencies as needed.
• Complete required training, certifications, and ongoing education for Call Taker duties.
