Job summary

Byrne, a long-standing dairy company in Central New York, seeks a Processing Mechanic for the night shift in Cortland to maintain, repair, and optimize processing equipment such as valves, UHT systems, tanks, and pumps.

The role requires a GED or high school diploma, technical training or a technician degree, and 2–3 years in the mechanical field with experience in valve/pump repairs and PLCs; food manufacturing background is a plus.

Qualifications

• GED or High School Diploma required.
• Technical training or an electrical/mechanical technician degree.
• Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in the mechanical field.
• Minimum 1 year experience in repair/rebuild of valves, pumps, and UHT components.
• Minimum 1 year experience in processing; PLCs/controls experience a must.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, troubleshoot, and repair valves and related equipment to ensure safe, compliant operation.
• Document emergency and PM repairs and follow safety procedures including SQF requirements.
• Manage inventory of valve parts and kits; place supplies as needed.
• Train and assist other technicians; help document training outcomes.
• Communicate with maintenance and plant leadership; report completed repairs and schedule maintenance.
• Maintain safety, quality, and clean work environment post-repair.
