Job summary

Byrne is seeking a Processing Mechanic to execute maintenance tasks and optimize processing equipment, including valves, UHT systems, tanks, and pumps. This role requires hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and adherence to safety and quality standards in a dairy processing environment.

Based in Cortland, NY with a 6pm-6:30am rotating weekend schedule, Byrne offers competitive hourly pay and benefits, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with match, tuition assistance, and scholarship

Qualifications

• GED or High School Diploma required.
• Technical training or electrical/mechanical technician degree preferred.
• 2–3 years of mechanical field experience.
• 1 year repair/rebuild experience with valves, pumps, and UHT components.
• 1 year processing experience.
• Experience with PLCs/instruments/controls.
• Food manufacturing background is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, troubleshoot, and repair valves and associated equipment for optimal function and safety compliance.
• Maintain records of emergency and PM repairs and follow procedures per safety standards including SQF.
• Monitor valve parts inventory and manage supplies for repairs.
• Train and support technicians and assist in training documentation.

Job Overview

The Processing Mechanic plays a key role in executing assigned Maintenancetasks. This includes overseeing the maintenance, repair, and optimization ofprocessing equipment, including but not limited to Valves, UHT Systems, tanks,and Pumps.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze, troubleshoot, and execute repair procedures for valves andassociated equipment to ensure optimal functionality and compliance withsafety standards.
• Maintain accurate records of emergency and PM scheduled repairs, followestablished procedures, and ensure compliance with safety regulations,including S.Q.F. certification.
• Monitor and manage inventory of valve parts and kits, aligning with repairfrequency and ordering supplies as necessary.
• Train and support other technicians, providing guidance on processing workprocedures, and occasionally assisting in training outcomes documentation.
• Regularly communicate with maintenance and plant leadership, reporting oncompleted repairs, equipment issues, and collaborating on maintenanceschedules.
• Uphold safety practices, ensure adherence to quality standards post-repair,and maintain a clean working environment.
• Aids and supports all areas in the production facility as assigned by thesupervisor/lead and begins to train and build competence in key areas inproduction, such as fillers, forklifts, and production lines.
• Responsible for gaining competence with online circuits and learning properhookups in the facility.
• Covers breaks, lunches, and other staffing needs assigned by theirsupervisor/lead.
• Works safely and promptly reports safety concerns to their supervisor/lead,taking corrective actions as necessary to ensure a safe environment.
• Responsible for reporting food safety problems and initiating action, and forsupporting SQF by maintaining food safety and food quality.

Min. Qualifications

• A GED or a High School Diploma is required.
• Technical training or an electrical/mechanical technician degree
• Minimum 2-3 years’ experience within the mechanical field
• Minimum 1 year experience in the repair and rebuild of valves, pumps, and UHTComponents.
• Minimum 1 year experience in processing
• Experience with programmable logic controllers, instruments, and controls
• A background in food manufacturing is a plus.
