Job summary

Byrne is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on dairy production equipment, including pasteurizers, homogenizers, and packaging lines at Cortland, NY. The role requires hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, and controls systems to minimize downtime.

Shift: N1 – 6pm-6:30am; Location: 3156 Byrne Hollow Crossing Cortland, NY 13045. Byrne offers competitive benefits and opportunities for growth within a 90-year-old regional dairy company.

Qualifications

• GED or High School diploma is preferred.
• Minimum 2-3 years’ experience within the mechanical field.
• Proficiency with VFDs, stretch/blow molding equipment, conveyors, pumps, pneumatic sanitary valves, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems, along with programmable logic controllers and instrumentation/controls.
• Experience maintaining closed cooling systems including evaporator towers, water cooling towers, and industrial chillers used in manufacturing operations.
• Food manufacturing environment experience preferred, with HVAC experience considered an additional asset for maintaining sanitary processing conditions.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on dairy processing equipment to minimize downtime.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems using hand and power tools.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and restore production lines with PLCs and motor controls.
• Install and maintain instrumentation and control systems including sensors and valves.
• Conduct routine inspections of steam, refrigeration, and water treatment systems.
• Maintain maintenance records and coordinate with production to schedule repairs.
