Job summary

Abtrex Industries, Inc. is seeking an experienced journeyman 6G welder to join our tank-building and fabrication shop in the United States.

This role requires strong pipe welding, fitting, fabrication, and blueprint-reading skills to produce high-quality welds the first time. You will read blueprints and shop drawings, independently fit and weld components, and follow welding procedures (WPS) to maintain tight tolerances.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of professional welding experience, journeyman level.
• Completion of a formal welding apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on trade experience.
• Current 6G welding qualification or the ability to pass a 6G weld test.
• Strong pipe welding and fitting experience.
• Experience welding carbon steel and stainless steel; alloy experience is a plus.
• Previous fabrication experience, including the ability to accurately lay out, fit, and assemble components.
• Proven ability to read and analyze blueprints, technical drawings, and welding specifications.
• Ability to work independently to lay out, fit, and accurately assemble fabricated components
• Experience working in a tank-building or heavy industrial fabrication shop.
• Thorough knowledge of welding safety practices and proper equipment operation.
• Ability to use measuring instruments and verify completed work against project specifications.
• Reliable attendance and a strong commitment to craftsmanship and producing quality work.
• ASME welding experience is preferred.
• Submerged arc welding experience is a plus.
• Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Perform journeyman-level 6G pipe welding for tanks, piping, and custom-fabricated equipment.
• Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, shop drawings, welding symbols, and specifications.
• Independently fit, assemble, and weld components according to project requirements.
• Follow established welding procedures (WPS) and maintain required tolerances.
• Inspect completed work for quality and accuracy, taking ownership of the finished product.
• Safely operate welding equipment, measuring tools, and other shop machinery.
• Follow all company safety practices and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Work closely with fitters, fabricators, and other tradespeople to complete projects efficiently.
• Share knowledge with and help guide apprentices and less experienced welders.
