Job summary

Philip's Academy Charter School of Paterson seeks a 5th Grade Level Science Teacher to lead instruction and foster a rigorous, hands-on learning environment for 4th–5th grade students.

The successful candidate will hold a NJ K-6 or 7-12 science certification, demonstrate strong collaboration with staff and families, and support an equity-focused, technology-infused program aligned with the school's mission.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field required.
• NJ State K-6 Teacher Certification or K-12 science certification required.
• 1-2 years teaching experience preferred.
• Commitment to academic success and to Philip's Academy's mission.
• Strong teamwork, work ethic and organizational skills.
• English communication skills; bilingualism a plus.
• Integrity, moral character and initiative are essential.
• Proficiency with technology: word processing and data management.
• Background check through NJ Department of Education required.
• CPR/First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogen certified or to be obtained on hire.
• Tuberculosis test and physical with physician's documentation.
• Ability to kneel, bend, squat, lift up to 70 lbs.

Nature and Scope of Job:

Under the supervision of the Principal, the 5th Grade Level Science Teacher will be the instructional leader of their classroom. The teacher will create, manage, and participate in a variety of learning environments and activities that enhance student development and mastery of learning objectives. Philip's teachers participate in extensive professional development, collaborate with other faculty and staff, promote rigorous learning opportunities, and look out for the collective and individual interests of Philip's students as well as the schools' greater community.

Responsibilities:

• Lead direct instruction in the classroom for whole groups, small groups, and individual students.
• Work cooperatively with grade level partners and additional staff to implement a strong, engaging, integrated and appropriate curriculum.
• Communicate effectively and collaborate with families to ensure consistency between home and school in order to promote student success.
• Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
• Support during other times of the day, including but not limited to teaching a co-curricular and providing supervision during recess, lunch, and hallway.
• Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice from the Principal.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field required; advanced degree in education a plus.
• Hold a valid NJ State K-6 Teacher Certification or other K-12 science certification (i.e., Biological Science, chemistry, earth science, physical science and general science.)
• 1-2 years teaching experience is preferred.
• Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students.

• Communicate effectively in English, both orally and verbally. Being bilingual is a plus.

• Submit a background check through the New Jersey Department of Education.
• Be CPR, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen certified or obtain certification upon hire.
• Complete a Tuberculosis test and physical and provide a physician's documentation of both.
• Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry students up to 70lbs.

SALARY RANGE:

$60,000 - $65,000

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the board's policy on evaluation.
