Job summary

Smalley, a global leader in precision metal forming, is seeking a Rolling Mill Operator to join our Lake Zurich, IL facility. You will set up and operate rolling mills, run multiple stands, troubleshoot equipment, and document quality data to support our manufacturing excellence.

Ideal candidates have hands-on mechanical experience in high-speed production, proficiency with micrometers and calipers, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience in a manufacturing or related environment.
• Mechanical experience including operation of high speed automatic equipment.
• Set up and adjustment of metal forming processes (stamping, forming, shearing).
• Experience troubleshooting production equipment and identifying machine problems.
• Experience measuring parts with precision instruments (micrometers, calipers).
• Pass required exam of basic math and English.

Responsibilities

• Sets up and operates rolling mills with multiple stands.
• Works toward setting up and operating rolling mills with eight progressive stands.
• Collaborates with other operators to expand rolling mill knowledge.
• Assists with troubleshooting and setup as needed.
• Operates testing equipment including micrometers, hardness testers, shadowgraphs.
• Provides complete, accurate documentation when required.
• Contributes to cross-department work to maintain quality standards and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Sets up and operates rolling mills with three progressive stands
• Works toward setting up and operating rolling mills with eight progressive stands
• Encouraged to work with Rolling Mill Operator 3 to expand Rolling Mill Knowledge
• Assists Rolling Mill Operator 1 with troubleshooting and setup as able
• Operates all testing equipment including: micrometers, hardness testers, shadowgraphs, etc.
• Provides complete, accurate documentation when required
• Participates in cross departmental work production based on business needs Learns and upholds defined quality standards to ensure maximum customer satisfaction and optimize work efficiency

Qualifications

• Experience working in a manufacturing or related environment
• Mechanical experience including: operation of high speed automatic and semi-automatic equipment
• Set up and adjustment of metal forming processes (stamping, forming, shearing) preferred
• Experience troubleshooting production equipment and ability to identify machine problems preferred
• Experience measuring parts with precision instruments including: micrometers, digital calipers, load testers, etc.
• Pass required exam of basic math and English

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role including shift premium is $21.85 - $24.15 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. This role is bonus/and or incentive eligible.
