Job summary

Smalley is seeking a manufacturing operator in Illinois to join a team with over 100 years of precision metal forming leadership. You will learn to set up and operate machine groups, load wire safely, perform quality inspections, and support maintenance and tooling changes.

The position emphasizes teamwork, adherence to quality standards, and efficient production. Experience in manufacturing and mechanical troubleshooting is valued, with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• Experience working in a manufacturing or related environment.
• Mechanical experience including operation of high speed automatic and semi-automatic equipment.
• Set up and adjustment of metal forming processes (stamping, forming, shearing).
• Experience Troubleshooting production equipment and identifying machine problems.
• Experience measuring parts with precision instruments including micrometers and calipers.

Responsibilities

• Learns to independently set up 25% and operate 100% of the machine groups in the respective area.
• Opens and closes each job.
• Loads wire efficiently and safely using appropriate tools and removes empty spools.
• Measures and inspects the wire quality throughout each step of the set up process.
• Operates all testing equipment including micrometers, calipers, etc.
• Retrieves gauges, tooling, racks, and materials needed.
• Demonstrates ability to perform heat sampling.
• Removes and installs machine tooling.
• Sets up machine(s) and adjusts tooling and parameters for each job.
• Assists leads and supervisors with teaching machine Operators.
• Learns basic troubleshooting and adjustments to machines.
• Communicates with machine Operators about machine issues.
• Performs wire rejection procedures.
• Participates in cross departmental work as needed.
• Upholds quality standards and production targets.

• Participates in cross departmental work production based on business needs
• Learns and upholds defined quality standards to ensure maximum customer satisfaction and optimize work efficiency
• Strives to achieve team and individual specified production targets

Qualifications

• Experience working in a manufacturing or related environment
• Mechanical experience including: operation of high speed automatic and semi-automatic equipment required
• Set up and adjustment of metal forming processes (stamping, forming, shearing) required
• Experience troubleshooting production equipment and ability to identify machine problems required
• Experience measuring parts with precision instruments including: micrometers, digital calipers, etc.
• Pass required exam of math and English

Salary range: A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is $19.00 - $24.00 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. This role is bonus/and or incentive eligible.
