Job summary

RTX is seeking an experienced CNC machinist to produce precision parts across CNC and manual machines. You will interpret blueprints and GD&T, select tooling, and perform setups with a focus on quality and safety. The role requires strong communication and mentoring skills to support continuous improvement.

Expect 3rd shift operations, with training during early weeks, and potential overtime. A solid background with 6+ years in CNC machining and relevant certifications is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High-school diploma or GED in the United States.
  • Certification in core discipline with 4–5 months of employment.
  • Experience with moderate to difficult programs in the primary discipline.
  • Strong communication across disciplines and staff.
  • Critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Job description

What You Will Do

Produce machine parts by programming, assembling, and operating computer numerical control (CNC) or manual machines (lathes, mills, grinders, and other specialized CNC and manual machines).

  • Interpret blueprints, work orders, engineering plans, specifications, reference planes, design sketches, and geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T) to determine operation, material, and dimensional requirements.
  • Assemble, repair, and fabricate metal parts into sub‑units or complete units using mechanical equipment.
  • Takes measurements of material and selects appropriate machines for the process.
  • Perform machining setups and make adjustments as required.
  • Conduct inspections of work produced and check SPC charts for frequency of checks, gauging and measurements.
  • Keep records and maintain quality and safety standards.
  • Exhibit RTX Leadership Behaviors and Values.
  • Support and follow all rules, guidelines, and standards set by EHS, Quality, and CI functions as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including extended shifts or overtime as required by the business.

Machine shop shift: 3rd shift, Monday through Friday, 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM. Training occurs Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM for the first 3-6 months.

Qualifications
  • High‑school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED) in the United States.
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience operating CNC machining centers.
  • Certification in core discipline with 4–5 months of employment.
  • Experience with moderate to difficult programs in the primary discipline and several moderate programs in additional disciplines.
  • Strong communication skills across disciplines and with all levels of staff.
  • Critical‑thinking ability using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
  • Self‑stimulation to prioritize, organize, and accomplish daily goals, often with little or no supervision.
  • Training and mentoring skills, respected by peers for hard work and ethics.
  • Moderate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • General awareness of production processes, quality control, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement tools and processes, manufacturing machines, and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Considered a technical expert in at least one discipline.
