Job summary

Wesleyan University seeks a Boiler Tender for its Central Power Plant in Middletown, CT. This full-time 3rd shift role runs 11:00pm–7:00am, with a half-hour paid lunch, and requires ensuring reliable steam and hot water systems for campus facilities.

Responsibilities include inspecting and maintaining boilers, chillers and related equipment, performing leak repairs, and recording daily logs. Occasional overtime and after-hours shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate licenses for operation.
• Five years’ experience in power plant operation.
• Reading, interpreting blueprints, drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair medium‑pressure boilers and related equipment.
• Use mechanical/electrical tools including threading, wrenches, snakes, and power tools.
• Perform steam/water/gas leak repairs and pump/valve maintenance.
• Record daily logs and monitor plant operations via automation systems.
• Coordinate with other trades and outside contractors as needed.
• Respond to service calls and after-hours emergencies as directed.
