Job summary

The Field Museum in Chicago, IL seeks a Research Assistant, 3D Imaging and Science Communication to support a Tiny Animal Scavenger Hunt across multiple galleries. The role focuses on turning CT scans into interactive 3D models and crafting engaging interpretive text for visitors.

With approximately 5 hours per week on-site during the school year, this position prefers an undergraduate pursuing biology or visual science communication and experience with Blender for 3D work.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student with biology and/or visual science communication coursework preferred.
• Experience with 3D imaging and modeling using Blender or similar software.
• Foundational knowledge of vertebrate skeletal and skull anatomy.
• Ability to work independently and meet project timelines.
• Natural history illustration experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Use provided CT scans to create/prepare interactive 3D models for visitor access via QR codes.
• Develop clear interpretive text explaining small-animal characteristics.
• Create a visitor-friendly map showing where to find each 3D model QR code across galleries.
• Collaborate with team members and exhibit personnel to plan deployment.
