Job summary

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services seeks a 2nd Shift Security Officer (Wage/Part-Time) for the Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute. This role supports safety for patients, visitors, and staff, monitoring entrances and enforcing facility policies.

The incumbent will assist in security operations, conduct rounds, and participate in investigations as directed by the Facility Director.

Qualifications

Possess a valid driver’s license without any court ordered restrictions, which must remain active throughout employment.
A valid Virginia security guard license or the ability to obtain within six months of employment is required.
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
This is a wage position with no benefits.

Responsibilities

Monitor entrances to the facility and grounds to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
Maintain a safe and secure environment and minimize contraband and elopement risks.
Serve as a DI-201 facility investigator to conduct unbiased investigations when assigned by the Facility Director.
Demonstrate ability to work independently with resourcefulness, sound judgment, integrity and tact.
Prepare and write detailed reports with attention to accuracy and grammar.
