Job summary

HES is seeking a school custodian to maintain cleanliness, safety, and functionality of facilities in a school environment. Responsibilities include cleaning floors, windows, restrooms, and assisting teachers with setup and maintenance of furniture and equipment.

No prior work experience is required; the role emphasizes the ability to learn, work with diverse staff, and pass a criminal background check. This is a 2nd shift position with school-hours availability and summer work.

Qualifications

• Able to read, write and comprehend at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
• Good interpersonal skills; able to work with a diverse group of people.
• Willingness to learn; background check required.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and wax floors.
• Machine shampoo carpeting.
• Clean walls, vents, screens, furniture, drinking fountains, light fixtures, window blinds, brass, and other interior fixtures.
• Wash interior and exterior windows and glass doors.
• Sweep entryways, empty exterior cigarette urns, and empty trashcans outside entrances.
• Clean restrooms, plunger sinks and toilets, and replenish supplies.
• Change interior light bulbs reachable from a ladder.
• Complete work requests to notify management of repairs.
• Remove snow and ice and apply salt or ice melt.
• Organize and supply custodial closets.
• Move, remove or set up furniture and equipment for events.
• Additional duties as required by supervisor.
