Job summary

AZZ Inc. invites applications for a Production Lead on the 2nd shift at our Blacksburg facility. You will assist in coordinating the work of production employees and report to the Production Supervisor. You are a team player who cares about product quality.

You will oversee equipment use, train new staff, enforce safety policies, and step in for the supervisor when needed. Strong communication skills and readiness for supervisory duties are essential.

Qualifications

• 6 months to 1 year related experience required.
• Knowledge of hot dip galvanizing, steel fabrication or other custom metal coating operations preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the safe use of all equipment.
• Troubleshooting minor equipment maintenance and repair.
• Confer with supervisor and machine operators to report equipment malfunctions to resolve production problems.
• Report on performance and progress of employees.
• Based on management recommendations, direct personnel on work assignments.
• Visually inspects finished material to ensure the quality standard is met.
• Assist in training new employees.
• Assist in enforcing safety policies.
• Must have customer communication, including e-mails, phone calls, in person, etc.
• Ability to cover the Supervisor’s tasks efficiently and accurately in the event of their absence.
• Must be willing to accomplish any other duties as assigned by management.
• Must be comfortable with supervisory responsibilities, as this role will have direct reports.
