Job summary

AZZ Inc. is seeking a Production Lead on the 2nd shift at our Blacksburg facility. You will coordinate the work of production employees under the supervision of the Production Supervisor, ensuring safe operation of equipment and product quality.

The role requires the ability to train new staff, enforce safety policies, and manage tasks in the supervisor’s absence. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• 6 months to 1 year related experience required.
• Knowledge of hot dip galvanizing, steel fabrication or other custom metal coating operations is preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the safe use of all equipment.
• Troubleshoot minor equipment maintenance and repair.
• Report equipment malfunctions to resolve production problems.
• Report on performance and progress of employees.
• Direct personnel on work assignments based on management recommendations.
• Visually inspect finished material to ensure quality standards are met.
• Assist in training new employees.
• Enforce safety policies.
• Cover the supervisor’s tasks efficiently and accurately in their absence.
• Be willing to accomplish other duties as assigned by management.
• Prepare for supervisory responsibilities with direct reports.

Job Description

AZZ has an exciting 2nd shift opportunity for a Production Lead at our Blacksburg facility. Reporting to the Production Supervisor you will be responsible for assisting in coordinating the work of all production employees. You’re a team player and you care about the quality of our product.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee the safe use of all equipment.
• Troubleshooting minor equipment maintenance and repair.
• Confer with supervisor and machine operators to report equipment malfunctions to resolve production problems.
• Report on performance and progress of employees.
• Based on management recommendations, direct personnel on work assignments.
• Visually inspects finished material to ensure the quality standard is met.
• Assist in training new employees.
• Assist in enforcing safety policies.
• Must have customer communication, including e-mails, phone calls, in person, etc.
• Ability to cover the Supervisor’s tasks efficiently and accurately in the event of their absence.
• Must be willing to accomplish any other duties as assigned by management.
• Must be comfortable with supervisory responsibilities, as this role will have direct reports.

Qualifications

• 6 months to 1-year related experience required.
• Knowledge of hot dip galvanizing, steel fabrication or other custom metal coating operations is preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
• Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
