Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding in Goose Creek, SC, seeks a 2nd shift Mechanical Technician K-3 (Pipefitter) to install, modify and repair piping systems and equipment. You will interpret drawings and blueprints to lay out routing, elevations and necessary components, ensuring leak-free joints and proper pressures.

Must have a high school diploma and relevant experience; apprenticeship or associate degree with related experience is required. Relocation is not offered; telework is not eligible.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; 5 years of related experience beyond schooling.
• Apprentice graduate or Associate's Degree in a relevant discipline with 3 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Install, modify, and repair piping systems and equipment.
• Read drawings, blueprints and sketches to plan routing, placement, pitch and elevation.
• Set up routes, openings, hangers, and determine and install risers, branch outlets, expansion joints and related components.
• Join, seal and test systems and equipment for proper pressures and leak-free joints.
