Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking Pipefitters for full-time, multi-shift work on piping systems and equipment.

Responsibilities include installing, modifying, and repairing piping from drawings, planning routes and elevations, and ensuring leak-free joints through testing and proper assembly.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent with 5 years related experience; may include certification.
• Apprentice graduate or Associate's Degree in a relevant discipline with 3 years related experience.
• Certification may be required for some positions.

Responsibilities

• Install, modify, and repair piping systems per drawings and blueprints.
• Plan routing, placement, pitch, elevation, and expansions; install hangers.
• Connect, seal, and test joints to ensure leak-free operation.
• Install equipment and ensure proper elevations and alignment.

Job description

Position: Pipefitters – Full‑Time, Multiple Shifts – Newport News Shipbuilding

Responsible for installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing piping systems and equipment. The pipefitters work from drawings, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion, and operation of various piping systems and equipment. They install, modify and repair systems by setting up system routes, placing and cutting route openings, installing hangers at proper pitch and elevation, and determining and installing such items as risers, branch outlets, expansion joints, pumps, gauges, and pressure regulators to ensure proper operation. The pipefitters also install equipment by planning and completing the routing and placement of systems to the equipment, determining and placing the equipment at the proper elevations and points, and joining, sealing, and testing systems and equipment for proper pressures, leak‑free joints, and operation.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and 5 years additional education and/or related experience; Apprentice graduate/Associate's Degree in relevant discipline and 3 years of related experience. May require certification.
