Job summary

SpecialtyRx, Inc. in Ohio is seeking a Junior Automation Specialist – 2nd Shift to support daily operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of pharmacy automation systems including Omnicell, DOSIS, and TSort. You will work with floor leadership, technicians, and vendors to keep equipment operational.

The role focuses on hands-on maintenance, cassette configuration, preventive maintenance, training of technicians, and ensuring smooth shift changeovers with minimal downtime.

Qualifications

• Pharmacy Technician registration/licensure as required by state.
• Pharmacy technician experience required; LTC pharmacy experience preferred.
• Experience with pharmacy automation equipment preferred.
• Strong mechanical and technical aptitude.
• Comfortable working with tools, cassettes, and automated dispensing equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to train employees and explain technical processes clearly.
• Ability to work independently during second shift while escalation is necessary.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn automation software, reporting systems, and equipment interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on support for Omnicell, DOSIS, TSort, packaging systems, and other pharmacy automation equipment.
• Monitor equipment during the shift and respond to errors, jams, failures, and workflow interruptions.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and escalate complex problems to the internal team, vendor, or leadership.
• Follow escalation procedures to minimize downtime and production disruption.
• Assist with setup, testing, installation, and implementation of new automation equipment and technology.
• Monitor equipment performance and identify recurring issues or opportunities for improvement.
• Perform cassette maintenance, including inspection, repair, component replacement, configuration, labeling, and organization.
• Build and configure new medication cassettes and assist with testing and validation before production use.
• Complete preventive maintenance and cleaning according to schedules.
• Maintain documentation, tools, spare parts, and technical supplies.
• Identify wear or declining performance and coordinate higher-level repairs or vendor service.
• Train newly hired pharmacy technicians on automation equipment, loading procedures, troubleshooting, safety, and care.
• Provide ongoing technical support and training when changes occur.
• Reinforce standardized automation practices and discourage unauthorized workarounds.
• Collaborate with pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, floor leadership, vendors, and Central Automation Team for efficient operations.
