Job summary

Advocate Health’s Core Lab: Microbiology in Charlotte, NC is seeking a qualified MLS/ASCP-certified microbiologist for full-time, 2nd shift work. Responsibilities include high-complexity testing across bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, virology and molecular diagnostics; specimen integrity; documentation; and training staff.

Qualifications

• MLS/ASCP certification is required or must be obtained within one year of on-boarding.
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related science acceptable.
• Experience with quality control and documentation in a clinical microbiology lab.
• Ability to train technologists and other staff.

Responsibilities

• Performs medium to high complexity microbiology testing procedures per protocols in bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, virology, and molecular testing.
• Maintains specimen integrity during all phases of testing and records results accurately in the EMR.
• Performs slide preparations, staining, and quality control; ensures compliance with PPE and safety rules.
• Interprets susceptibility patterns to determine resistance and contributes to validation studies.
• Trains technologists, students, residents, and nursing staff; participates in education on pathogens.
• Troubleshoots assay, reagent, and instrument issues and participates in process improvements.
