Job summary

Advocate Health’s Core Lab: Microbiology in Charlotte, NC, seeks a skilled professional to perform high-complexity microbiology testing and manage specimen integrity through all testing stages. Role includes documentation, data entry, and interpretation of complex susceptibility patterns.

Requires MLS(ASCP) or M(ASCP) certification within one year and a biology/chemistry degree. Second shift with rotating weekends/holidays; full-time, 40 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• MLS (ASCP) acceptable; M(ASCP) preferred within one year of on-boarding.

Responsibilities

• Performs medium to high complexity Microbiology testing procedures with quality in accordance with protocols in bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, virology and molecular-based infectious disease Microbiology.
• Assures integrity of specimens during all phases of testing.
• Performs various slide preparations and staining techniques.
• Maintains documentation/competency for processes as outlined in SOPs.
• Records patient test results into the EMR with high accuracy.
• Interprets susceptibility patterns to determine antibiotic resistance mechanisms.
• Performs Quality Control to establish acceptability of microbiological materials.
• Complies with respiratory PPE requirements and participates in training of staff.
• Participates in education on select pathogens and new technology transfer.
• Reports problems to leadership in a timely manner.

MLS (ASCP) acceptable

M(ASCP) preferred

B.A./B.S. in Biology, Chemistry or related scientific discipline
