Job summary

Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, OH seeks a Medical Lab Scientist or MLT for the 2nd shift (3:00 – 11:30 pm) in Microbiology. The role performs all clinical testing, reports results promptly, and ensures quality control and safety in the laboratory.

Qualifications include a Baccalaureate or Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology and ASCP certification eligibility; Microbiology experience is a must. Excellent communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Education: Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
• Licensure/Certification: ASCP certification, eligible for certification.
• Experience: Must have previous Microbiology experience.
• Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs all clinical testing in assigned department.
• Records and reports test results accurately and promptly.
• Performs and interprets quality control testing following established guidelines.
• Maintains a high level of quality assurance.
• Practices established safety procedures, including Universal Precautions and proper use of safety equipment.
• Able to recognize a problem by following prescribed strategies and make necessary corrections.
• Where no present criteria for decisions are available, will consult with supervisor/manager. In absence of supervisor/manager, will act to determine final decision.
• Coordinates and evaluates new reagents, procedures and equipment as requested by supervisor/manager.
• Performs routine scheduled and specialized maintenance of laboratory equipment.
