Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Supervisor, Microbiology Lab (2nd Shift) in Sturgis, MI within the Abbott Nutrition division. The role focuses on leading a single-shift microbiology lab, ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance while managing a skilled team and budget.

The candidate will oversee environmental monitoring, microbial testing, CAPA processes, and collaboration with production teams to optimize lab performance and cost control.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Food Technology, or Technical with 2 years’ experience in a regulated lab OR equivalent
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated problem solving skills
• Experience in high-volume manufacturing support labs
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Experience using project planning tools
• Plant financial understanding
• Computer skills (MS Office)

Responsibilities

• Lead the shift to deliver quality and compliance performance.
• Manage budget accountability for headcount, overtime, and direct expenses.
• Drive lab efficiencies and MSP objectives; improve lab performance and quality metrics.
• Provide direction and technical expertise to lab personnel and to plant.
• Coordinate staffing, training, and mentoring within the team.
• Ensure timely internal and external audits and CAPAs.
• Model and enforce EHS and quality policies within the shift.
• Plan and organize day-to-day laboratory operations and schedules.
