Job summary

Metals USA Flat Rolled Group in Waggaman, LA is seeking a Maintenance Technician - 2nd shift to service a carbon-steel distribution center supporting defense, commercial, construction, aerospace and fabrication industries.

The position requires vocational training and two years of experience, English proficiency, the ability to lift 50 lbs, and hands-on maintenance skills. Duties include dismantling, repairing, lubricating, and aligning production equipment while following safety policies.

Qualifications

• Vocational/Trade School education in electrical/mechanical work and two years of experience.
• Basic measuring skills to read and convert English and Metric systems.
• Able to read, write, and speak English.
• Able to lift up to 50lbs.
• Minimum one year experience in general maintenance repair work.
• Experience operating an overhead crane preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Requires competent technical aptitude and dexterity.

Responsibilities

• Dismantles machines and removes parts for repair using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists.
• Reassembles machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work.
• Starts machines and observes mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems.
• Inspects or tests damaged machine parts, and marks defective areas or advises supervisor of repair needs.
• Lubricates or applies adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts, or other equipment, according to specified procedures.
• Installs, replaces, or changes machine parts and attachments, according to production specifications.
• Records production, repair, and machine maintenance information.
• Reads maintenance repair work orders and specifications to determine machine and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
• Collaborates with other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment.
• Maintains equipment files and orders spare-parts inventory on service center equipment and works with operations to implement a preventive maintenance program.
• Comply with all safety regulations and procedures.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area and promote the same throughout the facility.
• Perform highly diverse duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility's equipment.
• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and scheduled maintenance repairs.
• Perform basic machinist duties and responsibilities.
• Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
• Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment.
• Diagnose problems, replace, or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
• Perform preventive maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities as prescribed in the plan.
