Job summary

Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) is seeking a Second Shift machine assistant/operator to support our corrugated packaging production in Illinois. The role focuses on safely operating and setting up the machine and ensuring quality throughout the process.

You will monitor materials and performance, follow factory cards, assist with training, and help the crew maximize efficiency while maintaining good housekeeping.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Lifting up to 45 pounds.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience as a machine assistant or operator.
• Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures around machinery and forklift traffic.

Responsibilities

• Assist with machine setup and proper setup techniques.
• Monitor box quality (loose liner, scoring, folding, print, glue placement) and report quality issues.
• Ensure finished boxes are stacked properly for unitizing/palletizing.
• Follow factory cards and operator instructions.
• Maximize equipment utilization by operating at full capacity and speed.
• Assist training of helpers on the machine.
• Complete reports (Production Data, Machine Status, Safety, Lean, Quality).
• Submit maintenance work orders for needed repairs.
• Be proactive in equipment maintenance.
• Adhere to all safety, housekeeping, and company policies.
• Support production schedule to meet cost, quality, and service goals.
• Report scheduling issues to Supervisor.
• Work with crew for maximum efficiency; switch duties as required.
