Job summary

The City of Naperville’s Fleet Division is seeking an Equipment Technician I, II, or III to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of fleet vehicles, including off-road equipment and ambulances. The role operates on a second shift (11:30am-8pm) with a 10% premium for that shift and compensation aligned to credentials and experience.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, record-keeping, welding, and fabrication as needed, with ongoing technician training to stay current

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus technical training.
• 3–5 years of related experience.
• Must possess complete set of automotive tools.
• Equipment Technician I: at least 2 ASE Certifications.
• Equipment Technician II: EVT Level I/II and ASE A4, A5, A9, T2–T6, E0–E3, F1–F4.
• Equipment Technician III: EVT Level III, City of Naperville Level II, ASE T1, T7, EVT E4, F5, F6.
• Valid IL CDL; must obtain Class A within six months.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy equipment and diesel/gas engines, including hydraulic systems and pumping equipment.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance to minimize downtime.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance.
• Maintain all heavy-duty truck and off-road equipment and perform necessary repairs.
• Participate in training and stay current on new technology and repair procedures.
• Perform welding and fabrication on body/frames and custom accessories.
• Keep the work area clean and follow safety rules and regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
