Job summary

Termax in Lake Zurich, IL is seeking an experienced Wire EDM Operator to program, set up, and operate wire EDM equipment to machine components per printed specifications. You will create 2- and 4-axis programs, fixture work pieces, and inspect completed parts for conformance.

Responsibilities include maintaining machine performance per the manual, adjusting control parameters to maximize output, and managing necessary inventory.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical training preferred.
• 5+ years on-the-job training, vocational education, or apprenticeship accepted.

Job Description Summary

Program, set-up, program and operate wire EDM equipment to machine components to the specifications on supplied prints.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Read and interpret prints and corrects any errors before cutting steel.
• Create 2 and 4 axis programs using appropriate software.
• Fixture work piece as necessary to facilitate machining.
• Inspect complete work piece to ensure all requirements have been met.
• Maintain machines per documented requirements in the machine manual.
• Adjust parameters and settings in the control to maximize output of the machine.
• Maintain necessary inventory of guides, wire, filter, belts, etc.
• Cooperate with engineers, production supervisor, and other personnel in an effective and constructive manner to maintain good relationships and to facilitate completion of responsibilities.
• Maintain the department/ work area clean and organized.
• Follow ISO/IATF, safety, and environmental procedures as well as department and corporate policies and procedures.

• Knowledge of standard tooling equipment.
• Knowledge of the properties of metals including hardness and how much heat they can withstand.
• Knowledge of equipment in manufacturing environment either plastic or steel, dies, and forming processes.
• Operate CAD and CAM software.
• Flexibility and tolerance for constantly changing demands.
• Thoroughness and detail oriented.
• Strong team player skills.
• Ability to apply algebraic, geometric formulas and shop mathematics.
• Ability to read and interpret specifications and engineering blueprints.

Education and Training

• High school or GED equivalent.
• Technical training, vocational education, or 5+ years on the job training/apprenticeship

Tools and Equipment

• EDM machine.
• Steel toed shoes, safety glasses and ear plugs are required at all times.
