Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a skilled CNC Machinist for our second shift, contributing to fabrication of spacecraft hardware and test systems. You will work on 3-axis and multi-axis CNC milling, learn advanced programming, and handle a diverse range of materials, including aluminum and titanium.

The role emphasizes collaboration with engineers, strict quality processes, and opportunity for overtime.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years experience with setup, programming, and operation of vertical or multi-axis CNC milling machines.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM programming software, Mastercam preferred.
  • Proficient with common computer apps (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Knowledge of programming languages (G-Code/Heidenhain).
  • Experience interpreting GD&T on blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, operate CNC and conventional milling machines for end-to-end manufacturing.
  • Interpret solid models and blueprints to meet specs using GD&T.
  • Conduct in-process inspection with precision tools and coordinate with QA.
  • Collaborate with engineers to optimize designs for fabrication.
  • Maintain quality processes and document work in ERP system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
