Job summary

Hilcorp in Texas seeks an Environmental Specialist to support field operations and engineering with environmental compliance across air, water, waste programs. This role requires clear communication between the Houston office and field staff to ensure timely regulatory adherence.

You will perform field sampling, assist in permitting, and coordinate with consultants on remediation projects while contributing to incident response, audits, and safety programs as part of Hilcorp's commitment to

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science or engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of environmental compliance experience in oil & gas or midstream.
  • Experience with EPA regulations (Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, etc.).
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with soil and groundwater sampling is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and provide environmental compliance support to field operations, engineering, and regulatory personnel.
  • Manage field-based environmental compliance with strong communication between Houston and field staff.
  • Perform job functions independently and manage task assignments with limited supervision.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, permits, authorizations, and agreements.
  • Provide knowledge across environmental media, including CAA, CWA, ESA, NEPA, and waste management.
  • Participate in project planning and development to communicate impacts to stakeholders.
  • Manage consultants in remediation and soil/groundwater cleanup projects.
  • Respond to active releases; support spill response and cleanup efforts.
  • Coordinate routine inspections with operations for air permits and participate in external audits.
  • Serve on the emergency response team and contribute to spill management program.
  • Investigate accidents to determine causes and recommend preventive actions and safety programs.
  • Adhere to Hilcorp values and support company vision and mission.
  • Adhere to work schedule, attendance standards, and punctuality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Develop tools and templates to manage the collection of environmental compliance information
  • Ability to be available 24hrs per day (on call questions, emergencies, etc)
  • Other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
  • 3+ years related work experience in an environmental specialist/compliance role is typical for this position, but years in the position is not as relevant as the application of knowledge and experience
  • Preferred: Oil & Gas, Petro Chemical, or midstream experience
  • Experience in use and function of office equipment including computers and applicable software
  • Experience interacting, advising, negotiating, and communicating effectively
  • Experience with soil and groundwater sampling techniques and protocols
  • Knowledge of: state and federal environmental regulations and standards and their applicability to operations
  • Ability to: evaluate, research, and interpret governmental regulations, equipment performance manuals, regulatory agency guidance and instructions, reports, correspondence, and company policies and procedures
  • Ability to: apply math, algebraic formulas, calculus, and statistics
  • Ability to: communicate and/or exchange information
  • Ability to: communicate effectively through the development of written communication that applies fundamental technical writing skills
  • Ability to: operate tools and equipment required
  • Ability to: collect environmental field samples (air, water, and waste) for analysis
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in an environmental science/engineering and/or related technical discipline or equivalent combination of formal education and job-related experience.
