Job summary

Hilcorp Energy Company is seeking an Environmental Specialist to coordinate and ensure regulatory compliance across field operations and the Houston office. The role requires strong communication between teams and precise handling of permits, inspections, and spill response.

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years in environmental compliance, a Bachelor's degree in environmental science or engineering, and proven ability to liaise with engineers, operations staff, and regulators.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in an environmental specialist/compliance role.
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Ability to evaluate, interpret, and apply regulatory guidance.
  • Experience communicating with field operations and regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits and agreements.
  • Provide expertise across environmental media and programs.
  • Coordinate project planning and communicate impacts among stakeholders.
  • Manage consultants for remediation and soil/groundwater projects.
  • Respond to incidents, spills, and participate in spill response.
  • Coordinate inspections and audits with operations and external bodies.
  • Serve on emergency response team and support safety programs.
  • Develop tools to collect environmental compliance information.

Job description

• Coordinate and provide environmental technical support to field operations, engineering, & regulatory personnel• This position is a field-based position that manages environmental compliance and requires strong communication skills between the Houston office and field operations staff• Perform job functions independently and able to manage task assignment and completion with limited supervisionEssential Job Responsibilities:Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, permits, authorizations, and agreements.Provide knowledge and expertise across all environmental media and programs, including Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and applicable waste management requirements.Participate in the project planning and development through all stages to facilitate communication of project impacts between all stakeholders.Manages consultants as required in the development of remediation and soil/groundwater cleanup projectsResponds to active releases and supports spill response and cleanup effortsCoordinates routine compliance inspections with operations for air permits and participates in external audits as requiredServes as a member of the company’s emergency response team and be involved in the spill management program.Investigates accidents to ascertain causes for use in recommending preventive safety measures, corrective actions, and developing safety program.Adheres to the company’s values – integrity, ownership, urgency, alignment and innovation.Supports company vision and mission.Adheres to established work schedule, attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings.Perform other duties as assigned.Other Job Responsibilities:Develop tools and templates to manage the collection of environmental compliance informationAbility to be available 24hrs per day (on call questions, emergencies, etc)Other duties as assigned by managementQualifications:3+ years related work experience in an environmental specialist/compliance role is typical for this position, but years in the position is not as relevant as the application of knowledge and experiencePreferred: Oil & Gas, Petro Chemical, or midstream experienceExperience in use and function of office equipment including computers and applicable softwareExperience interacting, advising, negotiating, and communicating effectivelyExperience with soil and groundwater sampling techniques and protocolsKnowledge of: state and federal environmental regulations and standards and their applicability to operationsAbility to: evaluate, research, and interpret governmental regulations, equipment performance manuals, regulatory agency guidance and instructions, reports, correspondence, and company policies and proceduresAbility to: apply math, algebraic formulas, calculus, and statisticsAbility to: communicate and/or exchange informationAbility to: communicate effectively through the development of written communication that applies fundamental technical writing skillsAbility to: operate tools and equipment requiredAbility to: collect environmental field samples (air, water, and waste) for analysisEducation Requirements:Bachelor's Degree or higher in an environmental science/engineering and/or related technical discipline or equivalent combination of formal education and job-related experience.Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:None required.
