Primary Purpose

Provide GT students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements
• Demonstrated competency in the core academics
• 30 GT hrs Foundational Certification or complete the hours during the first semester of hire.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Knowledge of the core academic subject assigned
• Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Teacher Responsibilities

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a pull out schedule to meet with students that meets each campuses needs
• Assist with meeting with principals and administrators regularly to approve the schedule and provide program updates
• Maintain a safe and welcoming classroom environment on each campus
• Collect permission slips and arrange for lunches for field trips
• Attend annual Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented conference
• Assist with the planning of project based learning activities that are appropriate for the grade level that reflect learning standards being taught in the classroom
• Conduct pull out or push-in services for GT students to complete projects that demonstrate advanced level products and/or performances
• Differentiate for students on a regular basis through incorporating Depth and Complexity
• Establish a way for students to present their products for each project
• Complete a GT Progress Report to be sent home with each student each semester
• Complete a GT Education Plan for each student to be updated at least once per school year.
• Establish a means of communicating with parents about how students will receive services and to address any individual concerns including parent meetings, letters, and email
• Disseminate copies of local GT policies and the Texas State Plan if requested
• Maintain Annual GT 6 hour update
• Maintain documentation of services provided to students and attendance at each pull out session

District Level Responsibilities

• Attend informational meeting for parents about how students will receive services
• Assist with hosting a GT Showcase to display students' advanced level products and/or performances for parents each semester
• Assist with maintaining GT documentation for students that have qualified for services within the district
• Assist with hosting a district-wide parent information meeting on identification procedures and program services
• Assist with the identification and assessment of students referred to the GT candidate pool
• Assist with facilitating teachers providing GT services in the classroom or during WIN at for all grades when necessary
• Assist with the organization of planned experiences for the universal screening
• Shop for specific project needs
• Help facilitate a field trip each semester or once per year for all grades, including arranging transportation and payment
• Provide extra curricular enrichment activities for GT students to attend or participate in during the school year, afterschool, and during the summer (Baylor TIP, Robotics, Leadership Camps, STEAM Camps, Rising Scholar Program activities)

Robotics Responsibilities

• Assist with the facilitation of application of students for the team once per semester or annually
• Assist with coordination of robotics program on campuses and coach a robotics team if necessary
• Assist with the facilitation of field trips and with travel to Robotics competitions
• Communicate with parents and coaches via letters, emails, and meetings
• Assist in hosting parent meetings to disseminate information and recruit volunteers
• Inform campus and district level administrators on updates about the robotics program when necessary

Rising Scholar Program Responsibilities

• Assist with facilitation of events and services that prepare students for college entrance, scholarship, and exam preparation
• Lead content specific sessions when applicable
• Assist with and attend field trips to tour college campuses
• Assist with district events and testing sessions that include Rising Scholars when necessary
• Attend parent informational program meetings

Professional Growth and Development

• Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
• Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
• Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Other Information: The District contributes $330 monthly toward the cost of the employee-only health insurance, which is $105 more than the state-required amount of $225/month. All employees in this position receive free treatment at any Next Level Urgent Care.
