Temporary Faculty Pool – University Coach (Supervisor): Education Specialist (ES) Credential Program

Position Summary
The University Coach (Supervisor) is a faculty member of LEBSE who supervises Teacher Credential Candidates for the Education Specialist Credential Program in both the Mild‑to‑Moderate and Extensive Support Needs credential areas. The Coach serves as a liaison between the university and cooperating schools, providing information about candidates and the program, and communicating school needs back to the university.
Instructor Responsibilities
- Meet with Mentor Teachers for orientation in the first two weeks of the semester or after student teaching begins.
- Make regular school‑site visits to meet with Teacher Candidates, Mentor Teachers, administrators, and observe candidates.
- Complete at least six formal lesson observations (four in‑person, two virtual) in TK20, using scripted field notes or an observation rubric.
- Debrief after each observation to guide candidate reflection and provide feedback.
- Maintain communication with Teacher Candidates and Mentor Teachers throughout the semester.
- Review lesson plans and reflections, providing continuous feedback.
- Assist candidates in applying current teaching methods, materials, and resources.
- Use effective questioning and coaching strategies to develop candidates’ self‑assessment, reflection, and goal setting.
- Document areas for improvement and, if necessary, contact the Education Specialist Program Coordinator.
- Support candidates’ basic needs and mental health; notify the Program Coordinator if concerns arise.
- Evaluate the Candidate’s Site Visitation Project or Teaching Sample Project and debrief results.
- Formally evaluate the Candidate (mid‑semester and final‑semester) during triad meetings with Mentor Teacher and Candidate.
- Assist the Candidate in meeting Teaching Performance Expectations and assign a CR/NC grade via PeopleSoft/MyFresnoState.
- Attend mandatory program events, meetings, and professional development; obtain rater reliability through FAST training, calibration, and scoring.
- Interact with students and staff respectfully at all times.
- Submit all documentation digitally through TK20.
Qualifications
- Clear Education Specialist teaching credential or administrative services credential.
- Master’s degree in Special Education or closely related field.
- Recent professional and/or teaching experience in a Pre‑K–12 setting.
- Knowledge of supervision approaches such as cognitive coaching and adult learning theory.
- Current knowledge of content‑specific pedagogy and instructional practices.
- Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Minimum of three years of experience teaching in Special Education.
- For candidates coaching those pursuing Bilingual Authorization: Bilingual Authorization or BCLAD and fluency in Spanish or Hmong.
Compensation
Salary commensurate with qualifications, within the CSU salary schedule (Class Code 2358). For a Master’s degree holder: $5,507–6,677 per month (15 WTUs). Salary adjusted based on WTUs assigned per term.
Term and Availability
Temporary faculty pool is continuously open; appointments fill as needed. Positions are part‑time, with term dates:
- Fall 2026: August 19 – December 22 2026
- Spring 2027: January 15 – May 26 2027
