Job summary

University of Iowa seeks an Operations Manager to supervise 24/7 CSS sterile processing, lead HR and staff development, and oversee budgeting and compliance across facilities including Medical Center University and Coralville units.

The role requires strong leadership, budgetary responsibility, and collaboration with clinical and administrative leaders to ensure high quality instrument reprocessing and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certification from CBSPD or CRCST for duration of employment.
• Minimum 5 years related experience in a medical field with sterile processing.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience with direct reports.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Commitment to principles of service excellence.
• Excellent organization skills; detail oriented.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal relationships with nursing, medical staff and departments.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Guide management during HR procedures and communicate issues to HR and CSS leadership.
• Coach and develop CSS Supervisors and staff through performance management to ensure outcomes.
• Assist in developing staffing model to meet dynamic clinical demands.
• Develop and monitor staff satisfaction initiatives to facilitate retention.
• Prepare or assist in budget development; provide projections and recommendations.
• Manage productivity data and monitor budget to meet targets.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, FDA, DOT, AAMI, AORN, and Joint Commission.
• Support continuous quality and process improvement in sterile processing.
• Apply performance management systems to develop individuals, teams and the organization.
• Lead and manage teams; develop operational and quality management systems.
• Identify instrumentation needs to provide quality patient care.
• Collaborate with leadership to set strategic goals and action plans.
• Provide progress reports to department director.
