Job summary

United Health Services, Inc. seeks a Telephone Operator to support hospital operations around the clock at UHS Wilson Medical Center and UHS Binghamton General Hospital.

You will handle paging for personnel and physicians via overhead systems, pagers, and cell phones, and assist with emergency codes and alarms. The role requires calm, discreet handling of sensitive information, and the ability to multitask during off-hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 2 years of experience with a multi-line phone system.
• Switchboard experience preferred (2 years).

Responsibilities

• Respond to paging requests for hospital personnel and physicians using paging systems.
• Monitor emergency communication systems including codes and alarms.
• Contact on-call personnel and clergy as requested by departments.
• Maintain control of hospital keys and the safe per facility policy.
• Coordinate telephone repairs and distribution of new phones.
• Maintain and inventory pagers used by hospital staff.
• Serve as backup information desk during off-hours for patients, visitors and staff.
• Act as base station for hospital security and coordinate responses as needed.
• Assist with release of deceased individuals per policy and regulatory requirements.
