Job summary

UPMC Center for Emergency Medicine seeks an EMS Communications Specialist to support UPMC PARC. This 24/7 operation requires flexible availability for day, evening, and overnight shifts, with rotating weekends and holidays.

The role processes incoming patient transport requests, handles all incoming calls, monitors alarms, and documents information in the Zoll RightCad system, delivering timely, courteous service per UPMC policies.

Qualifications

  • Experience handling emergency calls and coordinating patient transport.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to follow policies.
  • Availability for rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently schedule non-medically necessary transportation for eligible clients/consumers as designated by the UPMC Health Plan.
  • Plan and coordinate transportation via the appropriate mode in accordance with policies and procedures of the UPMC Health Plan.
  • Receive emergency calls and process appropriately.
  • Provide exceptional customer service according to UPMC policies and procedures.
  • Receive and document medical command reports and notify the emergency department.
  • Monitor hospital alarm systems.
  • Coordinate medical command requests from paramedic to physician and document the request.
  • Process incoming calls.
  • Document all information in the Zoll RightCad system.
  • Efficiently process medically necessary patient transportation requests on a timely basis.
  • Receive hospital condition codes and send out notification page per policy and procedure.
  • Perform hospital operator duties on the overnight shift.
