Job summary

The City of Amarillo is seeking a dedicated 911 dispatcher to provide around-the-clock emergency communications. You will answer 911 and admin lines, triage calls, dispatch responders, and guide callers with life-saving instructions.

Role requires strong communication skills, ability to work under pressure, and proficiency with TCIC/NCIC and GIS/CAD tools. Training and certifications are mandatory, including FEMA IS courses and TCLEOSE basics. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Must complete background check, fingerprinting and drug screen.
• FEMA IS-100.a, IS-700.b, IS-240.a training completed.
• TCIC/NCIC Full Access and TLETS training required.
• Basic TCLEOSE certification encouraged; CPR/healthcare provider knowledge a plus.
• Texas driver license required and hearing ability tested.

Responsibilities

• Answers 911 and administrative calls and gathers information.
• Triages requests and dispatches to police, fire, EMS or Animal Control.
• Provides life-saving instructions over the phone.
• Distributes information to responders and maintains safety.
• Performs NCIC checks and documents missing/stolen entries.
• Operates radios and computer systems; updates responders.
• Trains new dispatch employees; participates in policy meetings.
• Maintains logs, supports follow-ups with outside agencies.
