Job summary

Institute for Comm Living in Brooklyn, NY is seeking an entry-level direct care worker to support adults with mental illness and/or substance use disorders in a community residential setting. This on-site role provides 24/7 coverage to maintain safety, daily living support, and a therapeutic environment.

Responsibilities include safety inspections, incident reporting, teaching daily living skills, assisting with hygiene and meals, accompanying residents to appointments, and participating in team

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Experience: One year of related human services work.
• Certifications: CPR/First Aid and NYS driver’s license may be required.
• Work Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular facility safety, cleanliness, and security inspections.
• Report serious incidents promptly and document per policy.
• Explain available services; teach daily living skills, socialization, and conflict resolution.
• Follow emergency procedures and support resident safety.
• Assist residents with hygiene, grooming, nutrition, and daily living needs.
• Maintain staff communication logs each shift.
• Perform housekeeping to maintain a safe environment.
• Ensure meals meet dietary requirements.
• Accompany residents to medical appointments and community activities.
• Attend team meetings, trainings, and supervision.
• Monitor medications and document when assigned.
• Assist clinical staff with resident accountability and missing person procedures.
• Observe and document behavior and responses to treatment.
• Lead activity groups when appropriate.
• Assist with meal preparation, laundry, and light housekeeping.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
