Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory seeks a Section Supervisor for Building Operations to lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for continuous operation and optimization of critical building systems. You will drive safety, reliability, and efficiency while coordinating with maintenance, engineering, and project teams.

You will develop the workforce, set priorities, improve processes, and ensure readiness for planned and unplanned events in a 24/7 facility environment at the Laurel

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field with at least five years of facility operations experience.
• Experience leading, supervising, or directing skilled trades or technical staff.
• Experience in institutional, industrial, or complex operating environments.
• Working knowledge of central utility and building systems (boilers, chillers, pumps, HVAC).
• Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC controls.
• Experience with preventive and corrective maintenance, outages, and emergency response.
• Competence reading technical drawings and using CMMS for maintenance.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Valid state driver’s license; US citizenship or permanent resident status.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and administrative leadership for Operating Engineers and BAS technicians for 24/7 operations.
• Oversee 24/7 building and utility operations, outages, and emergency response.
• Oversee central utility plant equipment and BAS controls.
• Coordinate with maintenance, engineering, project managers, contractors, and customers to plan work and minimize disruption.
• Develop and improve operating procedures, standards, and processes for safety and reliability.
• Lead, mentor, and develop staff; manage performance and growth.
• Plan workforce and succession to sustain long-term operations.
