Job summary

Metropolitan Emergency Services Agency (MESA) seeks a Telecommunicator I to dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls for EMS, Fire, or Police services in the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The role requires evaluating incidents, directing appropriate units, and ensuring adherence to procedures.

Training includes critical assessment and certification within the first year. Applicants must meet education and physical requirements, pass a background check, and obtain essential certifications.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older with a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must pass a full scope background investigation including psychological and physical examinations.
• Must obtain EMD certification, APCO PST1 or department equivalent, and CPR certification within 1 year of hire.
• Able to read a map and provide directions; monitor road and weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Process emergency and non-emergency calls via telephone while staying informed of Fire, EMS, or Police units within Marion County 911 Center.
• Follow established policies and procedures for handling emergencies and incidents within your trained field.
• Enter information into CAD, VESTA, Map, EMSystem, Locution and other systems accurately.
• Operate CAD, Motorola MC7500, Locution, EMSystem, VESTA Telephone, VESTA Mapping, recording and monitoring devices.
• Maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Additional duties may be assigned as needed by management.
