Job summary

Kinsale Insurance in Richmond, VA, offers a paid summer internship in underwriting for rising juniors or seniors. This hands-on program blends research, data analysis, and sound judgment to expose you to the insurance industry and meaningful project work.

You’ll work with mentors, gain access to industry leaders, and contribute to underwriting files, broker submissions, loss run requests, and endorsements while developing independent and collaborative skills.

What You’ll Do

A typical day as an Underwriting Intern may include:

• Researching and processing finance premium notices.
• Entering broker submissions accurately in a fast‑paced environment.
• Analyzing and processing loss run requests from brokers and policyholders.
• Preparing endorsements for audits and issuing them to brokers.
• Reviewing and assembling documentation for underwriting files.
• Completing other assigned projects to support underwriting teams.

Qualifications

A successful candidate has:

• Rising junior or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree (finance, economics, business administration, or related).
• Strong problem‑solving and research abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

A compelling candidate also has:

• Academic focus in risk management and insurance.

Training & Development

• Weekly Lunch & Learns with leaders on career, technical, and industry topics.
• Dedicated mentor and team to guide your internship.
• Shadowing opportunities across multiple underwriting divisions.

Hiring Timeline

• Interviews: January – February 2027
• Offers extended after interviews
• Work hours: Onsite in Richmond, VA, Monday–Thursday, 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
